  • Blog, blogger, blogging. These are words that we often hear in this day and age of technology. A blog, the shortened version of “web log”, is a website where the author regularly uploads articles for his or her target audience. The act of updating the blog is called blogging. The primary purpose of blogging is to get the message across to the reader. Authors across the globe have a myriad of reasons to post their content online. It ranges from conveying emotions, sharing knowledge, promoting products and services, and expressing the author’s opinions. If you are planning to put up your own blog for the first time, here are some tips to consider: Establish your goal. Why do you want to blog? Having a reason to blog is a good goal to keep. This sets your direction when writing posts. Do you want to inform, promote, educate or help people that read your blog? Know your topic. It is imperative that you know the topic you want to write or blog about. Research and keep the facts straight. Make sure that credibility is your number one priority, as this will eventually establish your name as an authority in your niche. Look for sites to host your blog. Sign up for a free blogging site where you can put up your first blog. If you can shell out extra cash, you can also opt for companies that offer hosting services for a minimal fee. Either way, make sure that you are equipped with the basics. Your page should be easy to read and eye-catching.Choose a theme that goes well with the general subject of your blog. Research for ways on how to properly run a blog. Start posting. Once all the basics are done, you can now start posting on your blog. Come up with good topics that your target audience would be able to relate to. Before uploading, check first your spelling and proofread any grammatical errors. Spread your name. If you wish to be known as a blogger, you need to build your “brand”. Start with commenting on other blogs that interest you, as this is exposure in the simplest form. Make sure that you also provide a link back to your blog. If a particular website provides topics that you are interested in, you can ask the site owner if you can submit a guest post. Provide options for comments and feedback. Once people start to view your site or stumble upon your blog, make sure that the comments and feedback option is activated. It is always good to hear feedback, be it positive or negative. Criticisms are, in fact, a better source of ideas for you to improve your site. Be open to comments and always allow room for improvement. Pursue your goal. Setbacks are a constant in everyday life. The same goes for blogging. You might feel disheartened when people do not agree with your opinion. You might also wonder why your blog does not rank high in search engines. When these things happen, consider reviewing or tweaking your site for improvements. Blogging may be a bit technical for a lot of people. However, like everything else, it can be learned. Once something is learned it can be perfected, and once perfected it can lead to limitless wonders.Learn the basics, keep your goals in mind, and start blogging.
